PROVIDENCE, R.I. (December 2021) — Brown Surgical Associates today announced it’s expanding the practice’s Division of Colorectal Surgery with the addition of fellowship-trained surgeon Katherine A. Baysinger, M.D., FACS.

Specializing in colorectal surgery, Dr. Baysinger has clinical interests in robotic surgery for the treatment of rectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease; pelvic floor disorders in women; quality improvement; and a commitment to resident education.

“At Brown Surgical Associates, we pride ourselves on providing world-class surgical care to the people of Rhode Island, Southeastern Massachusetts, and beyond,” said Dr. William Cioffi, President of Brown Surgical Associates. “The addition of a fellowship-trained surgeon as skilled and highly regarded as Dr. Baysinger to our world-renown colorectal surgery team will ensure we’re fulfilling our mission.”

Dr. Baysinger is now seeing patients at 208 Collyer Street, Suite 301A in Providence, RI.

She will also be joining her Brown Surgical Associate colleagues – Dr. Adam Klipfel, Dr. Leslie Roth, Dr. Steven Schechter, and Dr. Matthew Vrees – at The Miriam Hospital in Providence.

“As soon as I met the partners at Brown Surgical Associates, I knew it was going to be a great fit,” Dr. Basinger said.  “They’re all terrific people who work really well together. I am confident I am going to have a really good support system and be able to further the goals of providing outstanding care for the community.”

Dr. Baysinger comes to Rhode Island from Augusta, Georgia, where she was recently a member of Colon and Rectal Surgery Associates. She earned her medical degree at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and went on to do her internship and residency in general surgery at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia. This was followed by a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at the University of Texas at Houston.

About Brown Surgical Associates

Brown Surgical Associates is Rhode Island’s largest multidisciplinary surgical group and a founding member of Brown Physicians, Inc. Our more than 50 surgeons are recognized for their experience in highly specialized areas of surgery. We offer the latest surgical techniques such as minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgery, and many of our physicians also participate in groundbreaking research and clinical trials. Our doctors are not only surgeons, they are educators. All of them are on the teaching staff at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, training the next generation of surgeons. Each of our surgeons is board-certified or board-eligible by the American Board of Surgery. Along with expert care, we strive to provide the best patient experience possible. That means 13 offices, located conveniently throughout Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts, and surgeons who can operate at eight hospitals across the area. Our location in East Greenwich provides a variety of surgical specialties to the people of southern Rhode Island. Our Johnston office in the Atwood Medical Center recently underwent renovation and we just opened a new state-of-the-art location in Smithfield.
